CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WSET) – A Virginia woman who has been fighting a tough battle with cancer for 30 years has won a brand new home from St. Jude.
"I'm going to have to soak it in for a few days, I think," Marilyn Stuckey said.
Stuckey's new home has three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a full basement and garage. It also has state-of-the-art appliances and a special room to honor a St. Jude patient in Lynchburg.
She says this will be a big change from the home she and her husband have lived in since 1979 – but whether they move in or not, she says they're definitely keeping it in the family.
"It was interesting, I never said anything to anybody but I just had a feeling: I'm going to win that house," Stuckey said.
Stuckey has been a Partner in Hope with St. Jude for more than 30 years, a cause she holds very near and dear to her heart.
"I've had cancer for the last 30 years myself and right now I have blood cancer. I'm on chemo and will be the rest of my life. So, I feel very lucky to be standing right here in this driveway, winning this beautiful home," said Stuckey.
President of Custom Structures Scott Elliot, the company who is building the home, and his team have a special message for Stuckey.
"Congratulations, I can't wait for our team to give you this beautiful house," said Elliot. "This has meant more to us than anything we've ever done."
Stuckey says just because the Dream Home giveaway is over, doesn't mean we should stop fighting for the cause.
The home is not ready to live in just yet. Due to setbacks cause by COVID-19, Custom Structures says they expect it will be finished by Sept. 24.
