When a New York college basketball fan made a one-handed shot from half-court on Thursday night, all she was expecting to receive from the Dunkin’ Donuts mascot was a $500 gift card.
But the giant coffee cup had a surprise for her.
Erin Tobin of Rensselaer was participating in a halftime promotion sponsored by the coffee chain at the Manhattan-Siena game at the Times Union Center in Albany. After landing the tough shot, the Siena alumna turned to find the mascot on one knee, engagement ring in his hand.
With some help, the costume was removed, revealing Tobin’s boyfriend. She said yes, the crowd cheered, and Siena went on to win the game 94-71.
On the downside, the Albany Times-Union reported there may never have been a Dunkin' Donuts gift card at all.
