(WACH) -- If you think young people aren't fond of Christmas music, think again.

A recent Nielsen study found music lovers between the ages of 18 and 34 now account for 36 percent of holiday music fans.

That's more than 40 percent larger than the corresponding pool of baby boomers who enjoy Christmas music.

Nielsen describes people 55 and older as "boomers and beyond" and they make up only a quarter of the holiday fan base.

The boomers and beyond group falls behind the 31 percent who belong to Generation X -- ages 35 to 54.

Survey organizers say having millennials as the generation that most-loves Christmas jingles is noteworthy since eight of the top 10 holiday songs played on the radio during the Christmas season last year were released between 1944 and 1970 - Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad."
